Date: 05 December 2016

IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Zimbabwe’s Gilmore Tee to attend Mozambique Fashion Week

Zimbabwean Fashion Practitioner & Global Citizen, Gilmore Tee will be attending the 10th Annual Mozambique Fashion Week, to be held in Maputo. Gilmore who is known for facilitating local and international markets for fashion designers through his agency, Hunnar, is one of the major voices in the fashion industry in Zimbabwe. Early November, he featured on SA Idol’s judge Gareth Cliff’s radio station, Cliff Central, talking about PR and Brand Building within the fashion and creative industries.

The award winning fashion practitioner is the brainchild behind the iFashion Fest, Intwasa Fashion Show, Quality Assurance Workshops, iPop Up ZW and many other initiatives that have promoted Zimbabwean designers to access markets. He has worked with designers to showcase on platforms such as South African Menswear Week, African Fashion Week Toronto, Ekurhuleni Fashion Festival and Durban Fashion Fair. In the same attempt of promoting Zimbabwean fashion and art, Gilmore will be attending the Mozambique Fashion Week this week. The event which commenced on the 2nd of December will run till the 11th at the Centro Cultural International; Joaquim Chissano in Maputo.

The organisers extended an invitation to me and asked myself why not. In many cases we put our art to Anglophone nations; I strongly believe this is a great opportunity for us to penetrate into the Portuguese nations with our art. My attending will also result to me taking a collection from Zimbabwe; in this case it is award winning Ara Kani. The brand has been doing incredibly well in the African continent; I think it deserves this platform to grow. What I also love about Ara Kani is the fact that the finishing is outstanding, thanks to the Edgars Stores training. It is a brand that I am not shy and embarrassed to take to the world and represent Zimbabwe” – said Gilmore Tee

Gilmore will be joining other international practitioners from Angola, USA, UK, France, Portugal, South Africa and Mozambique, just to name a few. Besides the fashion shows, Mozambique Fashion Week has fashion panels, site visitations and other cultural activities that it holds throughout the days. Gilmore will have the opportunity to participate in most of them and also share on the state of Zimbabwean fashion and how Mozambique and Zimbabwe can engage more in exchanging best practices.

I am looking forward to sharing some best practices with outstanding & award winning fashion practitioners and designers such as Ann McCreath, John Kaveke, Deeva van der Merwe, Felicia Mahatma, Khulekani Msweli, Shadia Esen and the incredible Rich Mnisi. These guys have been pushing the envelope in promoting fashion not only in their countries, but across the globe. This will allow me to also create more opportunities in other countries through them, during Mozambique Fashion Week. Am grateful for this invitation, it really is a great platform to create more linkages for Zim Fashion.
