For centuries, different cultures have always regarded tea as being healthy and some used it for medicinal purposes. I love herbal teas because not only do most of them taste great, but they have many health benefits. How great is it that we have nature to support us and give us an abundance of good health through herbal teas? Heres my top 10. Hope you find your fave!
Vanilla Chai Tea- Woolworths (cuddles tea)
My absolute fave and it is definitely number one on my list, vanilla chai tea has the best fragrance of all and the blend of vanilla with cloves, cassia, cinnamon, liquorice and ginger comes together to make what I call natures hot chocolate. It is best served with milk and hot and is great if you don’t like fruity sweet teas. It has several antioxidant properties, improves digestion, has anti-inflammatory properties, fights anxiety, wakes you up, alleviates nausea, protects overall cell health, improves heart health. reduces the risk of diabetes and best of all, it tastes divine.
Mamma tea womans support- Carmien (PMS tea)
Momma’s tea is berry flavoured tea with a combination of rooibos, raspberry leaf and forest berry blend which has a light fruity taste. It is great for women to maintain balance and provide support to their reproductive systems especially easing period pain. Women in preparation for labour during the third trimester of pregnancy are recommended to use it. It also relieves heavy or irregular cycles as well as PMS. It has a soothing effect on the nervous system and can help with insomnia and headaches, just to name a few. Pregnant women can use it to regulate hormones, ease nausea and morning sickness during pregnancy.
Apple, Cranberry, Cinnamon Tea- Woolworths (all-in-one tea)
This tasty yummy tea almost tastes like the hibiscus tea, but it tastes slightly sweeter and it is more fragrant. It is a fruity, lightly spiced tea with apple pieces and cinnamon notes. The cinnamon is the icing on the cake for this tea. The benefits include cleansing your system, weight loss, boosting metabolism, reducing cholesterol, reducing the risk of cancer, helps treat urinary tract infections (UTI), period pain relief, reducing blood sugar, source of vitamin B6, great for oral health care and fights viral, fungal and bacterial growth in your body.
Hibiscus Tea- Woolworths (health tea)
Definitely my favourite tea when it comes to taste and overall health benefits. Its a subtly sweet tasting tea with a cranberry like taste. This is my go-to tea when Im under the weather and not feeling 100. Its greatest benefit is that it is packed with antioxidants, but it is also rich in minerals, vitamin B, vitamin C, anthocyanins and it is caffeine free. Other benefits include lowering blood pressure and fat levels, boosts liver health, aids weight loss, prevents cancer, fights bacteria, helps fight common colds, relives menstrual pain, antidepressant agent and relieving the disturbed digestive and immune system.
Jasmine Green Tea- Woolworths (detox tea)
Green tea is great by itself bit for some people green tea doesn’t have such a great taste and it is hard to drink for them. I’ve found the jasmine green tea from Woolworths to be more fragrant than the normal green tea because of the jasmine making it easier to drink. It has the highest antioxidant amount which gives it its many benefits. Green tea has many benefits including detoxing, regulating bowel movements and digestion, fighting bacteria, aiding weight loss, aromatherapy, cancer prevention, anti-ageing properties, maintaining heart health, regulating circulation, stress relief and preventing inflammatory bowel disease.
Energise Tea with Guarana, Hoodia and Buchu- Carmien (energy tea)
Energy drinks are all good but why not try the healthier option. Carmien Energise tea is an energy giving tea that makes you more alert and helps you concentrate. Yes, it is not as strong as energy drinks, but it can get the job done. I’ve found this one to work better for me. It is a blend of buchu, hoodia, guarana and raspberry flavored Rooibos. Its benefits include improving brain functions, boosts immune system, detoxes, increases energy levels and relieves symptoms of high blood pressure.
Rose Petal and Vanilla Tea- Woolworths (vagina tea)
This is a light tea which is lightly fragranced with rose petals and slightly sweetened by vanilla. How great is it that not only can you enjoy roses as a gift, but your vagina can enjoy the benefits as well! The go to benefits for this tea are alleviating the heaviness of a period flow while lowering the pain, a home remedy for infertility and irregular periods and it maintains urinary tract health. Other benefits include boosting immune system, aiding weight loss, natural stress reliever, improves digestion, helps with constipation and diarrhoea and cures sore throat.
Rooibos and Camomile Tea- Carmien (relax tea)
After a long, stressful day, a nice hot cup of camomile tea can help you unwind and relax. The camomile flower gives the tea its calming, soothing, light and pleasant taste and aroma. Its benefits include relaxation, helps relieve inflammation, effective for dermatitis rashes such as eczema and acid reflux and gastrointestinal tract problems.
Rooibos- Fresh pack (ancestor of teas)
This is where my love for tea began where I realised, I’m not a fan of strong teas. This tea is an all-time favourite that is light and smooth. It has a sweet, nutty taste that isnt overpowering. I normally have it with a slice of lemon for added flavour but even by itself this tea is the one. Rooibos tea is rich in mineral, vitamin C, antioxidants and polyphenols. Its benefits include aiding weight loss, improving appearance of skin, alleviating pain and allergies, helps build strong bones, streamlines digestion, may control or prevent diabetes and supports heart health.
Ceylon Blend Tea- Five Roses (golden oldie)
For the strong, black tea lovers, Ceylon Blend Tea is the one for you. This tea doesnt really have an aroma or an interesting taste like the other teas, but it is rich in minerals, antioxidants, vitamins A, B1, B6 and C. its benefits include stabilising blood pressure, maintaining a healthy immune system, aids weight loss, gives you healthy skin, helps prevent cancer and gives you energy. It has the highest amount of caffeine among the teas Ive mentioned.
N.B. -The benefits of this tea work long term. Drinking a certain tea regularly will help you see its benefits.
